A few weeks ago, I was graciously nominated by Shadows of the Day for the Liebster Award.  I was pretty excited, because I never was given any kind of blogging award before.  So of course I wanted to know all about it.  Who created the Liebster Award?  What do you win?  How do you get nominated?  Read the “official Liebster Award questions and Liebster Award rules” here.  Here are the official Liebster Awards 2018 rules.  Here is what I came up with from the internet.

I thought that it would be totally appropriate to kick off the New Year (Happy New Year, everyone!!!!) by announcing that I was nominated for the Liebster Award, as well as announcing my nominations for my bestest blogging guys and gals, like eva.  I’m a bit biased, but I think if you follow them on Twitter or Instagram, you’ll also agree how boss they are, too.

What is the Liebster Award?

The Liebster Award is a self-nominated blogging award that works very much like a chain letter in order to promote other bloggers in a friendly and exciting way.  I mean, who doesn’t like to receive awards?

The award only exists on the internet, and you don’t really win anything except to be recognized.  For that reason, the Liebster Award is generally given to new bloggers.

You can choose to accept it and pay it forward, or you can ignore it.  Your choice.  Like a chain letter, there is a “curse” associated with not accepting.  People who choose not to accept the Liebster Award generally have their blogs go defunct.  But, that’s probably because if you choose not to accept this award, you really aren’t the type of person who continues blogging, but that is the “curse.”

There are many different rules, kind of like that game Whisper Down the Lane.  I chose to use the rules that were given to me, by the person who nominated me.  You can choose other rules or variate the rules, if you wish.

Personally, I choose to believe that this award is given to recognize your friends, and allow your readers to discover new blogs.  Or, at the very least, give your blogs a link from another blog.

The Liebster Award Rules Given to Me

  • It is up to you, whether you accept the award or not
  • If you do choose to accept the award, you must do the following:
    1. Write a blog post about the award
    2. Thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog in your post
    3. Provide 10 facts about yourself
    4. Nominate 5-12 new bloggers (let them know they have been nominated)
    5. You must answer the list of questions provided to you by the person who nominated you for the award
    6. Make a new set of questions for your nominees!
    7. List these rules in your blog post and provide links to all who you have nominated

10 Facts About Me

  1. I am married with three children, a Boston Terrier (Joe Paw!!!!), and two cats (Midnite and Rupert Bear).
  2. I am an attorney, and I have a full-time job writing legal opinions.
  3. I blog as a hobby, which is one of the reasons that I don’t monetize it much.
  4. I have plans in the future to monetize my blog more seriously, but I am wary of bloggers who are constantly shoving their products down your throat, and I don’t want to be that blogger.  I find them super annoying, and most of the time, their courses/eBooks are badly written with generic information that I could find with a Google search.
  5. But, I am also addicted to signing up to free webinars and emails lists.  I won’t buy anything from them, but I love joining them.
  6. I am into keeping fit, and I lift weights at the gym.
  7. Along the same lines, I eat healthily.  I love all healthy foods, like kale, spinach, and fruits, and I generally do not eat any carbohydrates except rice.
  8. I am Korean.  Which explains the rice.  And like most Koreans, I like spicy food.  (Spicy food is very good for you, too!)
  9. I seriously dislike the childish, self-centeredness of people who demand respect for some artificial reason, like their profession, because all living creatures are deserving of respect.  Also, people who demand respect are usually those who prove to be not respectable.  (Please note: “Not respectable” is a personal flaw of the other person, not an excuse for me to not respect them.  I strive to respect everyone.)
  10. I believe in charity, but not necessarily monetary.  Which is why I rescue animals, write letters and send care packages to deployed soldiers, and volunteer my legal services to those who cannot afford an attorney.  The people who deserve to be respected the most are the unfortunate, such as the poor, the hungry, the sick, the elderly, and the lonely.  Everyone has struggles, but these people have endless struggles, and they deserve our kindness, charity, and love.

Questions From Shadows of the Day

1. Since when did you start blogging?
I have been blogging since the inception of WordPress.  I used to own a very popular recipe blog, which I had to give up because I was going through some personal issues.
2. What do you feel about blogging?
I love blogging.  I believe that blogs give people a voice, much in the same way that the printing press allowed people to have a voice.  Sometimes I do not agree with the voices that are speaking, but that doesn’t mean the world doesn’t need the words.
3. Who would you like to work with in the future?
I totally have a crush on Cesar Millan, and I would be star-struck if Joe Paw and I met him for an Instagram shot.  My hero is Ruth Bader Ginsburg because she’s the baddest of the bad.  I thank her for the equality that she helped fight for [equal protection for women under the 14th Amendment].
4. Are there any tips you can give to new bloggers?
Put your social media profiles in the sidebar of your web site.  Make high-quality pinnable images for your posts.
5. Will you still continue blogging years from now?
Yes – blogging is my creative outlet.
6. Who or what is your inspiration in writing?
Stephen King.  He tells it like it is in On Writing.  This book is about writing books, but the principle is exactly the same.
7. Are you willing to work with me?
Yes.  Unless you just don’t morally agree with a blogger, you should be willing to work with anyone.  Helping and collaborating with each other is where it’s at.
8. What are your plans 10 years from now?
Basically the exact same thing. 🙂
